Which Twitter strategy should you chose?

Twitter for tech companies: Lesson 2

You’ve set up your account, you’ve followed all the right people. Hopefully most have followed you back and now you’re getting new people following you. How do you decide who to follow back? Well the answer depends on the Twitter strategy you chose.

Which Twitter strategy should you chose? At the highest level, there are 2 main “follower” strategies:Twitter strategy

1. “It’s all about the numbers” – so follow the whole world and its mother

2. Quality over quantity – follow those you know and are in the industry

I actually don’t get why B2B people  follow 10,500 people. There aren’t enough hours in the day to be reading that many tweets never mind actually engaging with that many people – which is what social media is all about.

This is particularly not relevant for Irish B2B software companies.  The quality strategy is much more important here.

Social media is about engaging and conversing with your fans and followers. Can you honestly expect to engage with 10,000 people regularlys?

I recommend that Irish software companies should have around a 1:1 ratio for their Twitter strategy. If you want to tip the scales a bit, then the ultimate goal would be to have more people following you than you are following. Because that means that people are interested in what you have to say and that you must be saying the right things.
